GENERAL TOOL AND MACHINE DISCUSSION / Re: Vise Stand - Options??
« Last post by nelstomlinson on May 19, 2024, 10:12:19 AM »I welded a chunk of heavy wall 4x4 tubing onto a heavy truck brake drum, welded a chunk of plate on top of that, and bolted on a $5 Chinesium vise. There's a steel tab welded on near the bottom of the tubing for my ground clamp.
It's mighty stable, but of course I can't wrench on it, since it'll spin. It lives outside the shop, and I mostly use it for holding materials while I cut or weld them.
The vise is another story. Years ago I took a pickup load of steel scrap to the recyclers. They were going to give me $5 for it, but there was a big Chinesium vise sitting on the ground nearby. I offered to take the vise instead of the cash, and they jumped at the deal.
