Links for tools and stuff we like / Re: Decent spray bottles

Usage update on the spray bottles. Been using them for 2 years now. All sorts of chemicals - homemade weed killer (salt, vinegar), Dawn dish soap, potassium hydroxide cleaner, Simple Green, glass cleaner, etc. No wet hands after use, none of the pump mechanisms have failed to pump or stick, bottle itself is not discoloring which might obscure the contents. All in all works as advertized!

My neighbor and I share a property line that is a wood fence, we replaced the slats like 10 years ago. Every 3 or 4 years I paint the slats with boiled linseed oil, just to give it some rain resistance and extra life.
Recoated it yesterday, he bought the materials so we could spray it on. Two gallons of BLO and a gallon of odorless paint thinner came to $107. Which we split. We did have about a third of the spirits left, which I took as parts cleaner. But geez!

Toward the end of the job we ran low on BLO, but I had 1/2 gallon stashed away that I had picked up at a garage sale. That allowed us to finish. Man, I's so glad I grab partial containers of chemicals at yard sales and such!

Smoking definitely isn't good for your health. And nothing wrong with not imbibing in those vices.

Moved cars around to get the project on the lift.  Need to install the gas tank, rear bumper and get the right bolts for the body mounts in and torqued before loading the car on a trailer and heading out for the exhaust installation.

Figured out how I want to mount all the brake elements and working on a bracket to support all that stuff.

First thing we noticed once the car was in the air was that the back of the transmission was tight up against the tunnel.  So much for a simple install.  The quick fix was to cut a small window into the tunnel and I'll make a new piece to enclose that area.

GENERAL DISCUSSION TO INCLUDE OFF TOPIC / New online tool store to check out!
« Last post by Uncle Buck on May 10, 2024, 04:07:22 PM »
Not new to me, but likely is to you. Located in Wichita, KS, a store called "The Yard" they also have a separate location for surplus and rebuilt tools. Both locations lean heavily towards the aircraft industry due to the local industries.

I have known about them for years, but only today visited them online. Recently I have been buying a mainly tools/accessories machinist in nature. One thing you never find cheap anywhere, including eBay and my favorite local store Harry Epsteins. That is long grooved 4r and 16r rigid grooved rules for use with combination square heads, centers, and protractor heads. Both 18" & 24" new or used are pricey.  I recently bought several small PEC (USA made) blem 4r grooved rules from Harry's.  They were the best prices I could find at time. As it turned out, the yard was selling virtually the same ones, same brand, blemishes 4r, or 16r, but priced considerably less than Harry's, especially in the 18 & 24" lengths. Those are closeout prices so they will dissappear as they sell out of their supply. The PEC brand will be ground off, but will likely be otherwise perfect.

I share this for anyone looking specifically for these, but they do sells tons of other stuff. No idea about the normally priced stuff, likely higher than I can afford. That said, they have a very unique product of rarely found stuff so perusing their online catalog is interesting.

If, like me you have been looking for modest priced USA made 4r, or 16r rigid grooved rules, you might check them out. I have found none cheaper anywhere.  To find them online just insert "Yardstore, com"

You wont find a pipe cradle nor ashtray anywhere in my house or garages. In fact all the manufacturing plants I was in charge of were all smoke free... I never promote any smoking habit and never indulged myself. Heck I gave out Bubble-Gum Cigars when each of my children were born..

A 30-year-old smoker can expect to live about 35 more years. Whereas a 30-year-old non-smoker can expect to live 53 more years. That's from reliable studies. But that's an average. Winston Churchill lived to 90 and smoked cigars most all his waking hours. Then again I lost two bosses from lung cancer before they reached 57 years old.

No alcoholic bar either. In fact you wont find any drink stronger the sparkling grape juice in my house. No there no religious reason behind my absences of drinking and smoking. Simply followed in my parents footsteps...

I spent months traveling in and around both Australia and New Zealand over the past five years. Communicating with the common folks and their feelings about being invaded with refugees and overzealous treatment to the Indigenous. The present liberal government and one-side news media has been overstating their ill-conceived beliefs. I feel a storm brewing in those two countries, much like in the Untied States..
