Aliexpress has them for pretty reasonable money if you can deal with metric threads.

...and if ordering from china is something you do. I use aliexpress a lot and have had nothing but good transactions. I won't comment on the political aspect of it versus Buy America or anything  :-X

I'd tap the end of the handle bar and use short pieces of stud loctited in to thread the balls on rather than shouldering the bar and cutting a thread.

GENERAL TOOL AND MACHINE DISCUSSION / Vise Refurbishment

OK,  as the title states, Vise Refurbishment- I have a OOOLD Chas. Parker that could use new jaws, but that itself is about 12 projects.  The handle is pretty rough and I'm thinking about replacing it with piece of 1144 stress proof bar.  The ends are the issue - do I just thread on some nuts or look for steel "balls" for the ends.

I have another "new to me" just picked up Saturday - Chicago Morgan 40 that is in great shape except for the handle... same issue, only the ends appear to be turned down, and nuts threaded on and they're too small IMO.

the 1144 bar is easy to find, but for some reason the steel "balls" are almost more than the rod for 2 vises....  Decisions :headbang:

I'm Primarily a woodworker.... BUT I'm getting more into metal work and do most metal work outside, the limited amount I do.  I only have smaller (Sherline brand) Machined for metal working, and that live in my basement model workshop.   I'm just thinking about protecting them as much as i can in an Unheated space in the Western NYS....

Those carts are very popular with woodworkers. Almost every woodworker I know has them. That said, in my garage those things would not last very long. Metalworking, welding, spraying paint and solvents makes wooden platforms crumble in just a few years.

My workbench is is made of pressure treated lumber, and even that takes a beating.

Getting everything to fit in this box is a difficult task.  Some of these pieces are hard to find.

I'd love a hitch vice but not really in my budget currently. generally if I need stuff "held down" I'll c clamp or other wise get it fastened to the trailer.

I did the big truck drum with a vice and it is pretty handy for stuff and I can tilt it and roll it around like a cylinder .

the vice came from an employer who was throwing it away as the jaws were "stuck" and the horse shoe collar has been unceremoniously removed by force before it came into my possession. I made one then discovered a guy can buy a brand new one directly from Wilton. I did weld up the holes redrill and tap so the collar would work. I'm wanting a pipe jaw as one was missing so I have to buy a set one of these days.

I cut out a mounting plate from 3/16" flat and welded it onto a 6x6 piece of square tubing as the riser. I didn't think trying to weld to the drum was a good idea so I cut out a circle from the 3/16" plate and "cut" holes in it for some allthread , washers and nuts to hold it to the drum.
