:-[ now I see the 8.8 was inches.

I was thinking liters. And hell yeah, Elroys putting a mountain motor in a Fox body.  :lol_hitting: My mistake.

I doubt 1144 and 416 would be even close on color match.  And drilling hard stainless is nasty. I wouldn't worry about dissimilar corrosion either, as it's not sub-sea equipment.

Stressproof, along with all the other leaded/freemachining steels will rust if you look at them wrong. Even 4140 can want to flash rust worse than plain old cold rolled mild. Something to think about on your handles.

My choice would be 4340 or 8640 in the QT state. Excellent strength, machinability, along with slightly better corrosion resistance from the alloyed chrome & nickel. Easy to make shine like a diamond in a goat's ass with negative rake carbide at 350-400 fpm and good chip.

I should have elaborated - 1144 and 416 are about equal in strength... no so much corrosion resistance...

My thought was just thread the ends and put a nut/acorn nut/steel ball end on and call it good.   Sheesh  the prices on 4340  (can't seem to find 8640 easily)   that's over 3x the $$ I have into both vises for a 3' long bar... ($150 plus shipping)  the 1144 just seems to be easier to obtain compared to other alloys.

I just like saying Fluid Management, and in fact....mentioned that in over 5 calls today. Everyone from bill collectors, to spam callers, to my mom and even the wifee. All were star struck that I could string those syllables together and make it sound like it was part of an everyday conversation.

Thank you for helping me improve my self esteem!  ;)

Even when you talked to the sperm bank?

I giggled

Not just the msm, but these ai bot things that send messages and all kinds of stuff through the tictoks and instacrap. Lonely people are easily manipulated through this type thing. It puts out things in the feed that can and do sway the narrative and it seems like just the other people are having a opinion and you should join in too. We have a huge problem with the next and subsequent generations, and our representatives aren't doing anything but collecting money from the lobbyists. When there have been forty hearings on social media legislation and no new legislation I'm thinking we are not being represented.

damn it. i have since looked for mine and seems to have disappeared. i suppose it got stuck to something at the end of a project and went down the road.

or i could blame my kids............

Now that my oldest has got to the point where he is starting to "use" tools. I now see why dad blamed me for so many lost tools.......Its just too easy not to blame the kids  :))

It's an option, but I'm not a fan of mixing metals if I can help it.  IF I was to, I'm reading 416SS is the equivalent to 1144......
